A German corpoorate group wants to close one of its subsidiaries in France in order to reduce excess-capacities. So that the other subsidiaries are not adversely affected, the closing shall be accomplished in the utmost professional manner. Alpha appoints a French HR director who has vast experience in closings. First, a plan is elaborated, followed by negotiations with the unions and the selection of affected employees. Each step is reported to the German headquarters. Within one year, all conditions for closure are achieved without a strike or causing a sensation. The Interim HR director, who conducted the unpleasant work, leaves the ship again. The permanent HR director continues the business unencumered.
